That is Hans Selye
Who is he?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Selye
Detailed info there on the good old Wikipedia page
Why is he important
well
General and Localized Adaptation and stress
that is why he is important
Right now and for the rest of the day I am and will be wearing a heart rate monitor, I put it on at 4:30 this morning when I woke up, checked my HR variability with my Ithlete ( I do this every day, check out the Ithlete here if you want a great tool for your IPhone), then I started the HR Monitor offered by the same company.
As of 09:30 am my avg hr is 83 and I have burned 484 kCal's
These two tools give me a couple of really important pieces of data
My HR variability tells me what level of stress my sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system is at.
On good days I can train heavier, and when my HRV (heart rate variability) is low I take it easy
With the HR Monitor, I get a good idea of what my current stress levels are, if my HR is high, I am obviously under some stress, if it is low I am obviously not under much stress.
If I can keep my HR low and still produce a high volume of work (lifting weight, performing mobility work, working on visual skills, combatives or martial arts training etc) with a high degree of skill and in regards to how well I perform the task, then I think it is safe to say that I have adapted to that task well and may be able to increase the stress level a bit, to which I will adapt, ad infinitum....
or not
back to my main man Selye
He figured out that there were basically two kinds of stress
Eustress and Distress
Eustress:Stress your body can resolve and adapt to
Distress:Stress your body can not resolve and can not adapt to
Is this something new?
no
check out my mates at the Z-health Performance Solutions organization
such as its founder Dr Eric Cobb, plank members like Kathy Mauck, Zach Salazar, any of its practitioners (like me) or any of the Movement Gyms or Movement Trainers like Adam Glass, Will Williams, Frankie Faires, Craig Keaton, Stephen Ruiz or Mike T. Nelson (there is in fact some crossover in the groups, Frankie, Craig, Stephen and Mike are all Z-Health Coaches)
we all share some very similar ideas on this subject
simply put
If I am trying to perform a task, and I perform that task with the least amount of stress on my system that I possibly can, this is essentially "healthy efficiency"
I will adapt to that task (SAID principal, argue if you like, but we ALWAYS ADAPT to EXACTLY what we do, you can get into semantic arguments if you like, I will be busy getting better, and so will my clients and others that have adopted this mentality)
Well, I have to finish this later, my alarm just sounded and its time to hit the salt mines
which brings me to this
Want to train with me once per week and get full nutritional support?
I am opening up a new training package that will give you just that
12 sessions, one session per week
Training Logs and email/phone support
A follow along video tailored to your needs and goals
and a FMS Screen at the beginning and end of your 12 week journey to let you see exactly how your body has adapted
all of this for 1200$
Call or email me for further details and I will be back later with more about my main man Selye and why I like being the laziest guy in the gym.
Cheers mates
